AERA Brings Scholars and Thought Leaders to February Knowledge Forum
Thirty-one accomplished scholars and a complementary group of national thought and policy leaders met at the AERA Knowledge Forum, February 18-19, in Washington, D.C. A first-of-its kind event in education research, the Forum aimed to connect the science and scholarship of education research to policy and practice emphasizing the value of diverse expertise.  

 
New AERA Fellows to Be Inducted at Annual Meeting
AERA has announced the selection of 22 scholars as 2016 AERA Fellows. AERA Fellows are selected on the basis of their notable and sustained research achievements.

AERA Offers Roster of Professional Development Courses at Annual Meeting

AERA’s OIA Repositions with New Name and Mission Statement
AERA’s long-standing Organization of Institutional Affiliates has been renamed with a new mission statement to align its vision and purpose as an integral part of AERA. It is now called the Consortium of University and Research Institutions. 
Education Researchers Receive Presidential Early Career Awards
On February 18, President Barack Obama named 105 scholars as recipients of the Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers. Of those researchers, five were specifically recognized for their contributions to education research.

House Bill Requires that NSF Grants Further “National Interest”
On February 10, the House of Representations voted 236178 to pass the Scientific Research in the National Interest Act (HR 3293). The bill would require the National Science Foundation to provide justification that each grant the agency awards is in the national interest.
President Releases FY 2017 Budget Request, Kicking Off Annual Appropriations Process
On February 9, the Obama administration released a $4.15 trillion budget for FY 2017. The budget shows a commitment to evidence-based policy making and investment in research and development.
