Thanksgiving Message from AERA's Executive Director
As we head into the Thanksgiving break, AERA sends all of our members, friends, and families a special holiday greeting. 
AERA et al. File Amicus Brief as Supreme Court Prepares to Reconsider Fisher
AERA, joined by nine other scientific societies, filed an amicus curiae brief in Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin urging the U.S. Supreme Court to consider the overwhelming scientific evidence relevant to the case.
 
AERA to Hold National Press Club Briefing on the Science of Diversity and Affirmative Action
On Monday, December 7, 2015, a panel of experts will discuss the scientific evidence on the use of race as a factor in university admissions policies and the educational benefits of student diversity.
 
AERA Issues Statement on Use of Value-Added Models
AERA released a statement in early November cautioning about the limitations of using value-added models (VAM) to assess the performance of educators and educator preparation programs.

Common Rule Comment Period Extended to January 6, 2016
The Department of Health and Human Services is seeking comments for proposed changes to the Common Rule—the federal regulations for the protection of human subjects (45CFR46). The comment period was extended 30 days to January 6, 2016. 

National Board for Education Sciences Meets
For the first time since becoming acting director of the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), Ruth Nield joined David Chard, chair of the National Board for Education Sciences (NBES), to welcome board members, IES staff, and visitors to the NBES meeting this month.

AERA Submits Comments on OBSSR Strategic Plan
On November 20, AERA submitted comments to the NIH’s Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR) regarding the office’s strategic plan for FY 2016 – 2020.
