AERA Voting Opens February 2
On February 2, AERA will open the 2015 election with voting conducted by electronic ballot. Voting members will receive a personalized link by e-mail to access their ballot. 
Tate, Lagemann, and Franklin Announced as Annual Meeting Speakers
AERA President Joyce E. King has announced William F. Tate, Ellen Condliffe Lagemann, and John Whittington Franklin as major speakers at the 2015 Annual Meeting. 

AERA Urges Census Bureau to Retain Key Education Indicator in ACS
In a December 29 letter, AERA urged the Census Bureau to retain a key question in the American Community Survey regarding respondents’ undergraduate degree field.

As reported in the December issue of AERA Highlights, the comment period for proposed teacher preparation regulations closes February 2. Comments can be submitted through the regulations.gov portal. 


IES Reauthorization Underway as 114th Congress Tackles Full Education Agenda
As the 114th Congress settles in, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee and the House Education and Workforce Committee have already started their work on legislation that is up for reauthorization.
 
President Obama Moves to Protect Student Data Privacy
On January 12, President Barack Obama announced his intention to push legislation to strengthen student data privacy. The president’s proposed Student Digital Privacy Act seeks to ensure that data collected by online or mobile educational programs are used only for educational purposes.

ESEA Reauthorization Kicks Off
Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), the new chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, has promised a robust education agenda for the 114th Congress.
College Ratings System Draft Framework Released
The U.S. Department of Education released a draft framework for a college ratings system on December 19. The ratings proposal would place individual institutions of higher education into one of three categories.
