Teresa McCarty to Give 2015 Brown Lecture—Register Now to Attend or Watch Live Online
Teresa L. McCarty, a professor at the University of California–Los Angeles and world-renowned scholar on Indigenous issues in education, will deliver AERA's 2015 Brown Lecture in Education Research on October 22.
 
AERA Organization of Institutional Affiliates Holds Fall Policy Meeting 
Representatives of more than 50 graduate schools and education and research organizations attended AERA’s Organization of Institutional Affiliates (OIA) annual Fall Policy Meeting on September 20 and 21 in Washington, D.C.
AERA Cosponsors Congressional Briefing on Peer Review
On September 22, AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine moderated a congressional briefing—“NIH Priority Setting: How Peer Review Assists the NIH in Selecting the Best Science”—held by the Coalition to Promote Research.
Friends of IES Holds Briefings on Early Math Education Research
The Friends of IES organized two briefings in Washington, D.C., titled “Building Strength in Numbers: How Do Early Interventions in Math Instruction Add Up?” which highlighted important research on early math education.

Proposed Common Rule Revisions Released 
On September 8, the Federal Register published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) noting proposed changes to the Common Rule, a set of federal regulations that guide the protection of human subjects in research. 
Congress Acts to Keep the Federal Government Open
The Senate passed a continuing resolution (CR) on September 30, the final day of the 2015 fiscal year, to keep the federal government open. The House has until midnight to follow suit to avert a government shutdown starting October 1. 
 
White House Announces Executive Order on Using Behavioral Science Insights
On September 15, President Obama called on federal agencies and departments to use “behavioral science insights” to “design government policies to better serve the American people.”
