AERA Standing Committee

Our Mission

Our name reflects our focus on research and action for gender equity and invites members who engage in gender equity research and advocacy to look to the committee as a resource and voice for their interests. Building on past success and looking to the needs of the future, SAGE's goals are:

  1. To highlight gender-related scholarship, including providing venues in the AERA Annual Conference Program, to foster discussions of gender equity scholarship, particularly research that disrupts binaries, and investigates and supports nuanced intersectional frameworks.
  2. To encourage, support, and promote scholars whose works engages the ares of gender, sexualities, and gender identities.
  3. To provide information and recommendations to AERA Council about ways to support scholarship and to help inform educational policy and outreach on gender equity.
  4. To serve as advocates for gender equity in education.

SAGE works closely with the Scholars of Color Committee and the Social Justice Action Committee to address equity and social justice issues within AERA. SAGE works with other national organizations serving gender equity to disseminate research and contribute to national educational policy affecting gender equity in education. SAGE oversees the program proposal review process for the slots it is allotted.
