Arizona State University

Dr. Michelene (Micki) T. H. Chi, Dorothy Bray Endowed Professor of Science and Teaching at Arizona State University, is an internationally renowned cognitive scientist and one of the founding figures of the modern learning sciences. She has published in leading journals in cognitive psychology, experimental psychology, child development, and educational psychology, among other areas. Her scholarship has created a unique and influential line of theory and research that has spanned nearly 40 years. Dr. Chi’s groundbreaking work has changed the way we think about how children develop and use knowledge, through the development of a comprehensive theory of instruction, major empirical findings, and seminal implications for educational practice.

This award is given to honor a meritorious contributor to educational research; its purpose is to publicize, motivate, encourage, and suggest models for educational research at its best.

From 1964 through 1973 the award was given jointly with Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) and was known as the AERA-PDK Awards. After 1974 AERA took sole responsibility for making the selection.
