Welcome to AERA’s web page for the Teacher-as-Researcher SIG!
We hope we will see you in Washington, DC for the 2016 Annual Meeting, themed, "Public Scholarship to Educate Diverse Democracies" Friday, April 8 – Tuesday, April 12.
We are delighted that our business meeting on Saturday, April 9th at 6:16 will feature a conversation with Gregory Michie.
Michie teaches 7th and 8th graders in Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood. He returned to teaching in Chicago Public Schools in 2012 after spending over a decade as a teacher educator. In 1996 he received the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching, which is given annually to ten outstanding teachers in the greater Chicago area. He has published numerous essays and articles about his work with children, and is the author of We Don’t Need Another Hero: Struggle, Hope, and Possibility in the Age of High-Stakes Schooling (Teachers College Press, 2012), Holler If You Hear Me: The Education of a Teacher and his Students, 2nd edition (Teachers College Press, 2009), and See You When We Get There: Teaching for Change in Urban Schools (Teachers College Press, 2005.
In addition to our conversation with Michie, the meeting will be an opportunity to meet and network with teachers and teacher educators from around the country who are interested in teacher research.
