Bilingual Education Research SIG Mentoring Session

Beginning in 2012, the BER SIG has sponsored a mentoring session in which we have paired young scholars with senior scholars in the field for some focused mentoring conversations during the Annual Meeting. We gather together, share refreshments, and kick off our conversations with a few key short talks offered by prominent scholars in the field. The bulk of our session together is spent talking in pairs. An invitation to participate in this event each year comes over the listserve; please keep an eye open for it and join us if you can! It is organized each year by the SIG Chair and Program Chair. Please direct any questions about it to them!

New! Travel Awards for Graduate Students

A new initiative in 2016, the BER SIG is pleased to offer travel awards to up to three current graduate students (Master’s or Doctoral) who will be presenting their work in the SIG’s program at the Annual Meeting. The application process opens very soon after acceptance letters go out for the annual meeting. Chair of the Committee for Travel Awards 2016 is Dr. Sharon Ulanoff ([email protected]).

Draft Position Statement on Emergent Bilinguals

We invite members of the SIG to comment upon our recent efforts to articulate a statement, for potential future consideration of AERA as a position statement, regarding the education of emergent bilingual students. Check back soon for a link to the statement.

Annual Awards

Each year the BER SIG honors the outstanding work of our membership with various awards. Please visit our awards page to read more about the calls and recent winners.
