Hello, fellow Division E members!
I am excited to begin my term as Division E VP! Although we are one of the smaller divisions of AERA, the work of our members has broad implications for education from preschool through college and beyond. I’m inspired by the energy and vision of our graduate students, early career faculty/researchers and senior scholars
Take a look at our newsletter: http://aeraenews.wordpress.com and read about the work of some of our members, including outgoing Division E Vice President Dorothy Espelage. Dorothy spearheaded AERA’s special publication on bullying and has been an important national voice on how to address bullying in schools.
We have been fortunate to have many very dedicated individuals serving as committee chairs, and it shows in our program! We have terrific sessions planned for Philadelphia in 2014. You can read more about the work of the program committee here: http://aeraenews.wordpress.com/2013/10/03/oct13-program/.
Please check out the awards call as well as the opportunity to participate in an early career seminar or graduate student seminar–these are just a few of the ways that Division E hopes to support and sustain scholars in Counseling and Human Development.
Also included in the newsletter is an interview with Division E research award winner Dewey Cornell. Thanks to our newsletter editor, Tanner LeBaron Wallace, for providing us with the opportunity to learn more about Dr. Cornell’s research.
Please be on the lookout for some other new initiatives: a graduate student poster session and a seed-grant competition; both will be part of the Division E annual business meeting.
I hope to hear from Division E members! Please send me your ideas, questions and suggestions for increasing membership, the annual program, the newsletter, workshops, new areas to focus on and anything else that come to mind. Contact me at [email protected] .
Happy fall!
Kathy Nakagawa, Arizona State University
