Welcome to the AERA Special Interest Group: Semiotics in Education: Signs, Meanings, and Multimodality. In recent years there has been a burgeoning interest in the role of semiotics in educational research. Due to this, this SIG seeks to increase opportunities for cross-fertilization of ideas related to semiotics, as it is broadly conceived, including multimodality and multimodal analysis.
Currently, our SIG is undergoing a membership drive to expand, grow, and provide a platform for the sharing of innovative research in the field. We are also in the process of developing colloquiums for the 2015 AERA meeting in an effort to provide a forum for current and developing research. A call for papers for the 2015 AERA meeting will be issued in June 2014. In addition, a call for papers for our online journal, the International Applied Semiotics Journal, will be posted in November 2014.
We strongly encourage your feedback and suggestions regarding these developments. Contact information for the SIG is located under the "Membership" tab on the SIG’s website. We appreciate your support and look forward to many years of scholarly development in the field.
Best wishes,
Rachel J. Pinnow, Chair
