Gifted Child Quarterly: Special Issue!

Gifted Child Quarterly Special Issue on Poverty

Children of high academic potential from low-income backgrounds face considerable challenges in achieving academic excellence, particularly as compared to their more economically advantaged peers. Nearly all states show large excellence gaps between children living in poverty and those who are not (Plucker et al., 2015). Gifted Child Quarterly is soliciting manuscripts on gifted education and poverty for a special issue to be co-edited by Joyce VanTassel-Baska and Tamra Stambaugh. We are interested in empirical and theoretical work from within and outside the field of gifted education on the intersection of advanced potential and the challenges of poverty, including emphasis on issues presented by low income at both the family level and the school level. Submitted papers will go through a full peer review process, with reviews by experts in gifted and talented education and in understanding the influence of poverty on educational systems and outcomes.

If you are interested in submitting a paper for the special issue, please submit a brief summary of the content of the paper/study (3-5 pages), with a list of any co-contributors/co-authors and their contact information.

The timeline for the special issue is as follows:

·         January 22, 2016: Proposals for the special issue are due.

·         February 26, 2016: Notification of proposal status will occur by this date.

·         September 30, 2016: Full papers for the special issue are due
