Two AERA members have been appointed by U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan to serve four-year terms on the National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB).

Andrew Ho, an assistant professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, will serve as a testing and measurement expert on NAGB. His research has focused on the development and use of large-scale data sets, including the National Assessment of Educational Progress. Ho has also conducted research on accountability metrics, such as those used for growth models. He holds a Ph.D. in educational psychology from Stanford University.

Joseph O’Keefe, a professor in the Lynch School of Education at Boston College, will serve on the board as a nonpublic school administrator. O’Keefe was dean of the Lynch School from 2005 to 2011. His research interests include urban Catholic schools, international comparative education, ethics in administration, and community service learning. He holds an Ed.D. from Harvard University.

Four other new members were appointed to NAGB: Florida state senator Anitere Flores; Rebecca Gagnon, director of the Minneapolis Public Schools Board of Education; Terry Mazany, president and CEO of the Chicago Community Trust; and former Georgia governor Sonny Perdue. The appointees will begin serving on October 1.
