AERA 2012 Annual Meeting Offers Public Hearing on the Gordon Commission
Deadline for Briefs Is March 31
March 2012
The Gordon Commission on the Future of Assessment in Education will hold an open hearing at the 2012 AERA Annual Meeting. An invited Presidential session, this hearing will offer attendees the opportunity to learn about the commission and its work and share their perspectives and viewpoints.
Persons interested in speaking at the session are invited to submit and orally present short briefs. Submissions are requested by March 31 via the
Gordon Commission website
. Written statements received in advance will be given priority on the hearing schedule. Attendees who choose to speak without prior submission are invited to register at the hearing and present briefs in writing immediately following their 3-minute statement.
The Gordon Commission has as its mission to (1) study the best of educational assessment policy, practice, and technology; (2) consider the best estimates of what education will become and what will be needed from educational measurement during the 21st century; and (3) generate recommendations on educational assessment design, instrumentation, and practice that meet or exceed the demands and needs of education, present and predicted. The commission’s
32 members
are U.S. leaders in education, including scholars and public policy figures. Its chair, Edmund W. Gordon, is John M. Musser Professor of Psychology, Emeritus, Yale University; Richard March Hoe Professor of Psychology and Education, Emeritus, Teachers College, Columbia University; and a former AERA president.
“A Public Hearing on the Gordon Commission on the Future of Assessment in Education” will be held on Saturday, April 14, 4:05 p.m.–6:05 p.m., in the Vancouver Convention Centre, First Level, West Ballroom C.
