July 2012 AERA has been selected to publish the upcoming edition of the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing, projected to be available in late 2013.
The several editions of the Standards are the result of a long-running collaboration of AERA, the American Psychological Association, and the National Council on Measurement in Education. The three associations have joint responsibility for the preparation, publication, and distribution of this authoritative resource. The proceeds from sales of the Standards are held in a development fund for revision and publication of future editions.
The current edition was published in 1999, and nearly 100,000 copies have been sold to date. The three associations determined that recent developments in testing (e.g., accommodations for persons with disabilities, the growth of computer-administered testing, and use of tests for high-stakes personnel and policy decisions) required revisions and additions to the current edition. AERA also published that edition.
Details on the revision process are available on the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing website. The current edition may be purchased via the AERA online bookstore.
