Welcome to Division J, Postsecondary Education. The mission of Division J is to advance research on postsecondary education with the goal of developing and testing theory, improving practice and informing policy decisions. To this end, the division provides a national and international forum for the dissemination and discussion of research on a multitude of topics with a postsecondary education focus. As one of 12 divisions of AERA, Division J serves as a vital link for its members with researchers across the educational spectrum. Through the annual meeting, annual pre-conference for new faculty and graduate students, and continuing electronic forms of communication (AERA-J listserv, and the Pen newsletter) the division serves as a mechanism for professional development and for establishing relationships with colleagues with similar interests and goals. Graduate student members find AERA, and particularly Division J, to be a good place to meet a wide range of professionals, apprentice into the field, and to make personal and professional friendships that last a lifetime. In keeping with its mission, Division J members include faculty, trustees, presidents and administrators from two-year and four-year colleges and universities, policy makers, researchers, and government officials. Graduate students comprise an especially important segment of the division s membership. We encourage and welcome members from the international educational community and from other divisions within AERA; currently Division J has members from over 15 countries.
