January 2014

Happy new year, Division H'ers. Just a couple of reminders about 2 submission calls: publication awards and graduate student junior representative.

1. Publication Awards Due January 12. Each year Division H awards publications in six categories--applied research methodology, applied research report, evaluation, assessment, dissertation, and communication. You will need to submit an electronic copy of your submission, any supporting material, and the submission form to Dale at [email protected]. Details are available at:  http://www.aera.net/DivisionH/Awards/tabid/11267/Default.aspx

NOTE:  We are extending the deadline for submissions for the Dissertation category of our yearly Publication Awards to January 19.

Division H awards up to two dissertations. The first place winner receives $1000; the second place winner receives $500.  Awardees are announced at the Division H Breakfast and Business Meeting at AERA's Annual Conference. This year the Breakfast/Business Meeting is Sunday, April 6, 8-10 am at the Annual Meeting in Philadelphia. (Location has not yet been assigned.)

2. Graduate Student Junior Representative Nominations Due February 21. Nominations for Division H's Graduate Student Junior Representative are due February 21. Self-nominations are encouraged.

Each Division in AERA has a Senior and a Junior Graduate Student Representative that are part of AERA's Graduate Student Council and perform other duties for the division--planning conference sessions and maintaining communication with graduate student members of the division.

The Graduate Student representative cycle represents a two-year, three-annual conference commitment. The Junior Rep-elect will attend the 2014 AERA annual conference and shadow the current Junior and Senior Reps. After the 2014 conference, the Junior Rep-elect becomes the Junior Rep. After the 2015 conference, this person becomes Senior Rep.

The Division contributes $700 toward the expenses of each Rep for all three years of conference attendance.

Applicants must be graduate students through the 2016 annual conference and must be able to attend all three years. Additional information about the application process, benefits of being a GS Rep, and duties can be found in this call.
