SIG Purpose

The Charters & School Choice SIG is established to provide a non-partisan, multidisciplinary forum for research and discussion about various forms of school choice that empower parents with the decision of where to send their children to school.  Our aim is to build an international community of scholars who are in engaged in research, policy and practice concerning school choice and charters. Pursuant to these purposes the SIG may elect to publish its own journal, or hold occasional conferences supplementing AERA meetings.

Message from SIG Chair

Welcome to the new website for the AERA Charters & School Choice SIG. After spending two years combining the former School Choice and Charter School Research & Evaluation SIGs into one, we are enthusiastically embarking on new initiatives to expand our membership and to encourage interaction among our members both nationally and internationally. To facilitate this process, Nina Buchanan, our first Communicators Manager, developed our new website. As co-Chairs, we encourage you to take full advantage of your SIG membership by reaching out to other AERA members to share your research and accomplishments in the field of school choice. Many of us have reaped the advantages of collaborating with AERA colleagues on research  that  was far more rich than if the work had been done individually on one's own. We look forward to a productive year as we transition to our new home -- the Charters & School Choice SIG --- and are very happy to have you join us on the journey!
