I often comment that so much research of immediate relevance to educational practitioners is done in collaboration with schools and school districts that our School/University Collaborative Research SIG has universal appeal across all of AERA! Despite our wide appeal, we are one of the smaller but vibrant SIGs in which your voice will be heard and your contributions appreciated.

We have a well-founded understanding of what we mean by school-university collaborations (for example, see Slater’s School/University Collaborative Matrix in Slater, J. J., & Ravid, R. [2010]. Collaboration in education. New York, NY: Routledge), and we are keen to foster discussion, engender interest, and support research endeavors in these types of situations. However, we are also keen to remain abreast of new approaches to and extensions of the more usual school/university collaborative contexts. For example, at our most recent Business Meeting, we were pleased to welcome some newer members who were engaged in researching the three-way interaction among school, university, and community in the interest of enhancing civic engagement.

Please feel most welcome to join us in “the friendly SIG.”
