Message From CASE SIG CHAIR
Dr. Berte Van Wyk
Welcome to you all.
It feels like yesterday that the new Executive was introduced, and yet we are already three months in office. As the new Chairperson my vision is for the SIG to have a broader footprint within AERA. We can do several things to achieve this objective. Firstly we must build the SIG by encouraging our non-registered members to come back. Secondly we must take our message to others within and beyond AERA who long for an intellectual and cultural home. If we do this we will significantly increase our membership and be more visible. Thirdly we must build our networks through drawing on the scholarship available in the SIG. An important component here is to make our intellectual resources available to our graduate students.
We should also showcase our research in line with our mandate to encourage, conduct, coordinate, and disseminate research on education specific to Caribbean and African countries across the Diaspora. To realize this mandate I shall edit a book and will send out a call for book chapters later this year.
Looking forward to see you in Washington, DC in 2016.
Berte van Wyk, PhD
