It’s hard to believe that it's already February, and AERA 2014 will be here before you know it! We are pleased to unveil our new website, housed on the AERA server. Although the AERA platform is a bit limiting, having our information on the AERA page creates continuity from one set of officers to the next, so I think it will be easier to keep our information updated.
In addition, we have put together a great slate of candidates for our elected positions, and AERA is running elections right now. Please be sure to vote. Although nominations for the 2014 service award winner have closed, we would love to start soliciting nominations for the 2015Ed Stats SIG service award winner. If you would like to nominate someone for the award, please email a nomination letter and a copy of the candidate’s vita to me at betsy,[email protected] . Nominations are due December 1st, 2014. We will announce the winner of the 2014 award at AERA in April. Richard Lomax will be giving an address at our business meeting as the 2013 award winner.
Thanks to Holmes Finch, who has worked hard to put together the AERA 2014 program. We are especially excited about a special session that we have created for early career scholars called I got the job, now what. Thanks to Debbie Hahs-Vaughn, Ann O’Connell, Brian French, and Holmes Finch for helping to develop this innovative session. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone in Philadelphia, and I am so excited about our SIG’s offerings.
The Ed-Stats SIG is in charge of organizing the Quant SIG social this year, so I am busily arranging a location and time for that. Stay tuned for details in the near future.
Finally, I am interested in forming an ad hoc membership committee to discuss ways that we could better serve the members of the Ed Stats SIG. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact me at [email protected]
